Troop 300 Eagles
Our Eagle Tribute Page was created in 2007, and reflects those scouts who earned Eagle while in Troop 300, and/or joined our troop as an Eagle Scout when they moved to Alaska. We are proud of all of our scouts, but especially those that have worn the Eagle badge in our troop. Last names are added when the scouts reach their 18th birthday.

The project required 10 workers and took more than 65 hours to complete.

As a scout, he's white water rafted the Royal George in Colorado, and canoed more than 50 miles across the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. For his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Zach created a student outdoor work and study area, which included building picnic tables, landscaping a large gravel pad, and centering it around a fire ring. His project took multiple days to accomplish, required more than a dozen workers, and required more than 100 hours,

JADON SHEVELAND [BOR 1/5/2021] - Jadon excels in many different programs and in multiple ways, including scouting. As a Cub Scout, he earned all 20 of that program's activity badges, as well as his Arrow of Light. In Troop 300, he twice served as one of the troop's only patrol leaders in the troop's history to ever earn the BSA National Honor Patrol Award, an award established by "Green Bar Bill" (Bill Hillcourt) in 1986. Under Jadon's leadership his patrol members rallied to an exceptional standard and they not only earned the National Honor Patrol Award, but they were also singled out at a Court of Honor for the winner patrol. Jadon has also served as a Troop Instructor, and he's an inspiration on every event that he can attend. But he's also equally active in multiple sports, and academically he was inducted in the National Honor Society at Wasilla High Schoo with a 3.85 GPA. In sports he was selected as the Captain of both his soccer and football teams, and was promoted to Flight Commander in his high school AFJROTC program. He's a fast burner going places, and he's hard to keep up with!

NATE STOTLER [BOR 1/5/2021] - Nate came to Troop 300 at the age of 16, and immediately started engaging in his troop with a contagious enthusiasm that excited his fellow scouts. As a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster he motivated his troop to take on new and greater challenges, highlighted by a 50 mile canoe expedition through the heart of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. Nate proved that if you are dedicated to something, and put in the effort you can make the seemingly impossible happen. He's been an inspiration for the younger scouts from the very first day he joined. For his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project he made campsite "Ring" enhancements that included refurbishing multiple picnic tables at the Little Susitna Campground for the City of Houston. His project took more than 132 hours of work.

PAUL LUDWIG [BOR 12/3/2020] - Paul came to Troop 300 out of the Cub Scout program, and dedicated himself early to earning Eagle as a tribute to his grandfather, who passed away in 2016. In Troop 300, he served as our Troop Librarian and Patrol Leader multiple consecutive terms, as well as an Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. His last major leadership job was as the troop's Senior Patrol Leader, a job that required leading the troop in the midst of the pandemic crisis of Covid-19. Under Paul's leadership the troop figured out Zoom scouting, and was still able to stay engaged, including conducting a 50 mile canoe trip in June of 2020, a backpacking trek for new scouts, and a more adventurous trip to Caines Head in Seward. The troop also mountain biked Resurrection Trail, the Lost Lake Trail, and Eklutna Trail, and even did a mountain backpacking trek to Bomber Glacier. The Covid-19 pandemic challenged the entire troop, and Paul's leadership was instrumental into keeping the troop aligned with it's goal of being "Second to None."
For his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Paul organized and led a workforce that sewed over 140 hospital gowns for staff members of various medical hospitals and facilities, a welcomed project accomplished at a critical time when personal protective equipment was in short supply in the early days of the pandemic.

ISAAC IVEY [BOR 11/5/2020] - Isaac Ivey came to Troop 300 in early 2020, crossing over from Troop 35 sponsored by the LDS church. Right away he engaged fully in our activities, and he was elected patrol leader for the OWL patrol almost the same week he joined. Working on trying to finish up Eagle just as the Pandemic came on full force was a challenging endeavor, but he turned the challenge into an opportunity. In the early days many of the local clinics could not obtain Personal Protective Equipment (PPP), and mask were in exceptionally short supply. For his leadership service project he met that challenge with a 477 hour Eagle project that organized a workforce to sew over 500 masks and distributed to the areas within the state where the were most needed. Isaac is very active in his church, helping deliver firewood, setting up emergency housing for domestic violence families, and shoveling snow for elderly couples throughout the winters. He intends to complete his 2 year mission for his church, and then perhaps look at a career in either Culinary Arts, or becoming a deep sea welder.

Joe has been a long time very involved scout, having worked at Camp Gorsuch as a counselor, and having served as the OA Lodge Chief. Scouting was a big part of his life, and he attended the World Jamboree in West Virginia in 2019. He was also singled out to be the Master of Ceremonies for the Great Alaska Council's annual recognition dinner, a testament to his abilities and commitment to scouting. For his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project he organized a blanket drive for Project Linus of Alaska, a project that required more than 335 hours of work and involved 60 workers. He is clearly a young man going places, and for his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project he repaired and refurbished a dozen picnic tables for the City of Houston. For the six months we had him in Troop 300, he was impressive in his accomplishments and dedication to the scouting ideals and his spirit and dedication motivated many of his peers to get their own Eagle plans moving forward.
OWEN HOYT [BOR 7/29/2020] - Owen has been with Troop 300 since he joined, and has worked his way up from Scout to Eagle one campout after another. He earned his Eagle at the age of 15, which is an impressive accomplishment for any scout in any troop. But at this same time, he also earned a total of 44 merit badges, and simultaneously with his Eagle he will also pick up two Bronze Palms, plus a Silver Palm and a Gold Palm as well! In Troop 300's history we have never had a scout do all of the simultaneously. As one of "US" he's been on our adventures from the beginning. At age 12 he sea kayaked to Caines Head, and as a Life Scout in 2020 he canoed 50 miles of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, dealing with everything from hot sun, swarming mosquitos, and pounding hail over the 6 day 5 night adventure. One of the things that makes Owen stand out is his willingness to help other scouts, and as one of the troop's Instructors he has taken the initiative to contact scouts needing advancement, and then spent the time to help them to get to where they needed to be.

For his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project he spent more than 120 hours rebuilding and relocating a shed for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, his troop's chartering organization. STEPHEN DeFILLIPO [BOR 3/27/2020] - Stephen literally grew up in Troop 300, and as a long-time Troop Guide he was instrumental in helping our younger scouts enjoy the program, and he inspired many to follow in his footsteps. His favorite campout was Curry, our deep winter train expedition into the Alaskan winter wilderness, but he's not just a winter camper. He's also been on the troop's Bahama Sea Base trip, hitting the ocean with equal exuberance. For his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project he climbed a crew to the top of the Matanuska Butte and once there he led a crew to take a hydraulic jack and with a lot of scout power they pulled an old unusable park bench out of the ground in which it had been cemented. He and his fellow scouts then restored the foundation by digging new holes and then re-concreting the bench back in place, resetting it at the proper level and restoring its usefulness. This required him to lead a large crew carrying approximately 250 pounds of supplies up a 900 foot climb. The view up there is incredible, and his Eagle project will be there for many years to come as a tribute to his leadership and scouting fortitude.

ZACHARY HOWLETT [BOR 3/26/2020] - Zach is an incredible young man, clearly going places in life and working hard to chase his goals and make them happen. For his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project he designed, and then built, a swing set for a church camp, leading 25 individuals for more than 220 hours to make it happen. His project required getting his drawings approved and certified by an Alaska state licensed engineer. He overcame one obstacle after another to complete it, never wavering. and never giving up. He excels in theater, and has been the lead in three productions, and also lettered in Choir.
